In this day and age, earning yourself some extra cash outside of your 9-5 is pretty standard, but what about making that ‘side hustle’ into your actual job?

Working from home can be an excellent idea for many of us, especially those who have time-consuming hobbies, and setting your own hours is definitely an advantage.

If you’re looking to set up your own business, we’ve come up with a few ideas of how to get started.

Use a skill/hobby you have.

Are you a keen crafter or do you enjoy making things? Are you into photography, writing, graphic design, fitness, cooking or baking, or even hair and beauty?

So many skills and hobbies can be made into a legitimate business if you can dedicate spare time to them before making the jump to going self-employed. Dedicate your evenings and weekends to setting up your business and, when the time feels right, you can ditch the 9-5 and work for yourself.

Think about where you work.

Could you do that same job at home for other businesses too?

Virtual assistants are on the rise along with freelance marketing experts as many of these jobs can be done from the comfort of your dining room table, your sofa or even your bed if you’re feeling a little lazy one day. Many workplaces are open to the idea of home-working and flexible working if it means keeping their staff happy and comfortable.

Are you considered an expert in your field, or are you a manager at your work?

Coaching could be an option for you or even tutoring.

There are so many people out there wanting to better themselves and taking their career to the next level, so why not help out if you can? This can be as specialised or as niche as you want it to be, possible industry-specific, or you could be a coach for those wanting to improve their general management skills. The options are endless when it comes to coaching!

Side hustles.

If you’d still like to stay in your full-time job, side hustling doesn’t have to mean going full-time self-employed.

Start off small: selling unwanted items on eBay, using cashback sites whenever you buy something online, taking part in online surveys as often as you can or you could even look into getting yourself a paper round or becoming a leaflet distributor. If all else fails, car boot sales can be a fun way to make some extra cash! This is the best way to dip your toe into the world of making money outside of your usual job.

Whether you’re looking to leave your full-time job or simply earn some extra money on the side to save up for a new house or a holiday, there are so many ideas you can consider. Being able to work from home is the ultimate goal for many of us, so why not give it a go?
